Fleet
Mahan Air (IATA: W5, ICAO: IRM) is Iran's first private airline, established in 1991 and beginning operations in June 1992. Based in Tehran, the airline operates from Imam Khomeini International Airport as its primary hub, with additional operations at Mehrabad International Airport. As of August 2026, Mahan Air serves 24 domestic destinations and 10 international routes across 7 countries.
The airline operates a mixed fleet of approximately 32 aircraft, combining long-range widebodies (Airbus A300, A310, A340 and Boeing 747) for international and trunk routes with regional turboprops (Fokker 50, Fokker 100, BAe 146, Avro RJ85) for domestic services. This diverse fleet structure allows coverage of both high-capacity intercontinental routes and smaller domestic markets across Iran's geography.
Mahan Air has faced international sanctions and operational restrictions: the European Union imposed restrictions in 2019–2020, denying landing rights in France, Germany, Italy, and Spain, with renewed EU sanctions in 2024. The United States has also imposed sanctions on the airline. Despite these constraints, Mahan Air continues to operate scheduled services within Iran and to approved international destinations.
