Maldivian

Maldivian (IATA: Q2, ICAO: DQA) is the government-owned national airline of the Maldives, established in 2000. Originally known as Island Aviation, the carrier rebranded under its current name in August 2008. It serves as a crucial link for the island nation, operating from its main hub at Velana International Airport in Malé.

The airline operates a mixed network of domestic inter-island services connecting the archipelago, alongside international routes to key markets in Asia including India, Bangladesh, Thailand, and China. Maldivian is the only operator in the country offering both seaplane and conventional wheelbase operations, making it essential for reaching remote island destinations where traditional airports are unavailable.

The fleet comprises regional turboprops (ATR 72-600, ATR 42-600, Dash 8) for domestic and short-haul services, narrowbody Airbus A320 and A321 aircraft for regional routes, and the widebody Airbus A330-200 introduced in January 2025 for longer international sectors. With over 4,500 employees, Maldivian manages one of the world's most geographically challenging route networks.
