How online check-in works
Online check-in opens 24 hours before your flight and closes 45 minutes before domestic departures or 90 minutes before international flights. There is no fee for online check-in. You can check in via www.aa.com, the American Airlines app, or airport self-service kiosks.
Steps to check in online:
- Visit www.aa.com or open the American Airlines app
- Enter your confirmation code and last name
- Review your flight details and passenger information
- Select or purchase seat assignments if desired
- Add checked or extra baggage if needed
- Receive your boarding pass via email or app
Practical tip: Check in as soon as the 24-hour window opens for popular flights to secure preferred seat choices, especially on routes from major hubs.
