Costa Rica's aviation market comprises three airlines, with Avianca Costa Rica serving as the country's flagship carrier since 1945. The airline operates from San Jose Juan Santamaria International Airport, which shares hub status with Juan Santamaría International Airport, the busiest airport in the country. Sansa Regional, established in 1980, and Skyway Costa Rica, a newer entrant founded in 2017, also base their operations at Juan Santamaría International Airport. The Costa Rican airline sector does not include low-cost carriers, with all three operators following traditional service models.
